Beaupre's time with Komets done

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

Defenseman Gabriel Beaupre, who hadn’t played for the Komets since Nov. 13 because of a concussion, won’t play again this season.

General manager David Franke said Beaupre was recently cleared to resume all physical activities and doesn’t plan to stick around Fort Wayne in the coming weeks, after he totaled six goals, 18 points and a plus-9 rating in 89 games. He was particularly good in the 2016 playoffs, totaling two assists and a plus-12 rating in 15 games, but he played in only 11 games this season.

“The important thing here is he’s healthy. It was a long, difficult road for him, but the important thing is that he’s healthy and has been cleared for all activities,” said Franke, adding he's not sure if Beaupre will try to play again next season or hang up the skates.

Also, the release of defenseman Ryan Lowney this week was merely clerical. His amateur tryout agreement was traded in for a standard contract.
