Cazzola called up; Aces go dormant

Mike Cazzola, who has 20 goals and 57 points in 50 games for the Komets, has been called up to Binghamton of the American Hockey League. Cazzola is second in ECHL rookie scoring behind only Toledo's Tyson Spink, who has 58 points.

The Komets have two other players in the AHL: Kyle Thomas with Cleveland and Bobby Shea with Rochester.

Also, the Alaska Aces announced that they are doing dormant next season because of financial difficulties.

“This is an incredibly difficult decision, which came after months of careful consideration,” Aces managing partner Terry Parks said. “We worked through every possible solution that might have avoided this outcome but it became painfully obvious to us that, in this economy, a professional hockey team is not sustainable in Alaska.”

The Allen Americans have also transferred ownership from the Steven Brothers to a group led by Jack Gulati.
