ECHL team for sale not Komets

Justin A. Cohn | The Journal Gazette

At least two ECHL franchises are up for sale, according to The Sports Advisory group, and one of them is described as being in the Midwest.

However, Komets president Michael Franke said it is not his team, which is preparing for its 65th season of play.

The advertisement on http://www.thesportsadvisorygroup.com/, reads: "Team is in a great financial position, and located in a fantastic minor-league hockey market. Tremendous fan base and community support combined with successful operations and management make this team very appealing for prospective buyers."

Owners of the Komets, who reached the Western Conference finals last season, have said in recent years that they would be foolish not to listen if someone called with a substantial offer but they are not actively looking to sell the franchise.

According to The Sports Advisory Group, there is also a "storied" franchise for sale on the East Coast.

As for the Midwest team, it’s tough to narrow down what possible franchises it could be among. What constitutes the Midwest? Would, say, Rapid City, South Dakota, or Allen, Texas, fall into that geographic area? To me, nothing west of the Quad Cities or south of Missouri would be a Midwest team, but that’s up for debate.
