K's dominate Mavericks

Six different players scored for the Komets in their 6-1 victory tonight at Independence, Missouri.

Not only did the Komets sweep their back-to-back games at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, outscoring the Missouri Mavericks 12-5, but they are 2-0-2 on a five-game road trip that ends Sunday at Wichita, Kansas.

Before the game, the ECHL suspended defenseman Bobby Shea for three games for his actions in an 11-player scrum on Friday. Shea got one game for being the aggressor in the last five minutes of a game and two for punching an unsuspecting opponent.

Regardless, the Komets scored all four goals of the first period and had a six-goal lead before Missouri’s Shawn Pauly put the puck past goalie Eric Hartzell, who stopped 30 of 31 shots.

For Missouri (3-7-1), Ville Husso stopped 13 of 18 and his backup, Eamon McAdam, stopped 10 of 11.

Mike Cazzola had one goal and three points for Fort Wayne (7-2-2), which also got a goal and an assist each from Gabriel Desjardins, Mike Embach and David Friedmann. Shawn Szydlowski and Cody Sol also scored for the Komets.

After totaling two goals, 21 points and a plus-6 rating in 65 games last season, Sol has one goal, seven points and is plus-11 in 11 games.
