Notre Dame pummels NC State for 6th straight win

SOUTH BEND — Another week, another blowout victory for Notre Dame.
Josh Adams buoyed his candidacy for the Heisman Trophy with 202 rushing yards, and Julian Love returned an interception for a touchdown as the Irish battered No. 14 North Carolina State 35-14 on Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium.
The ninth-ranked Irish (7-1) have won six straight games, and all seven wins on the season have come by a minimum of 20 points.
This one appeared competitive early, with a 7-7 deadlock after the first quarter and the Wolfpack (6-2) jumping out to a 14-7 advantage early in the second on Ryan Finley's 15-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Harmon.
But that was the only score surrendered by Notre Dame's defense, which took full control of the proceedings and ended Finley's string of 339 passes without being picked off when Love got him in the third quarter. Love ran 69 yards for a 28-14 lead, and Adams capped the scoring later in the period with a 77-yard burst through the middle of North Carolina State's defense.
Brandon Wimbush threw a 25-yard TD pass to Durham Smythe that tied the game in the first quarter and an 11-yarder to Kevin Stepherson that provided a 21-14 halftime lead.
Wimbush completed 10 of 10 passes for 104 yards and also had a 3-yard TD run.
North Carolina State blocked a punt and recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a 7-0 lead, but coach Dave Doeren's offense ended up gaining only 263 yards to Notre Dame's 422.
The Wolfpack were penalized a season-worst 12 times for 89 yards.
Notre Dame plays host to Wake Forest next Saturday.
