Irish add 4-star linebacker for 2019

Notre Dame added another recruit to its 2019 class when four-star linebacker Osita Ekonwu announced Thursday that he will play for the Irish.

"I am BEYOND excited to announce that I will continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame," Ekonwu wrote on Twitter. "I would like to thank the University of Notre Dame, as well and Coach (Clark) Lea and Coach (Brian) Kelly for blessing me with this incredible opportunity and privilege."

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Ekonwu plays at Providence Day School in Charlotte and 247sports ranks him the No. 7 inside linebacker in the country and the No. 190 player in the class. He chose the Irish over offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee and others.

With Ekonwu's commitment, the 13th in the 2019 group for the Irish, Notre Dame's class moves up to No. 6 nationally. He joins Pioneer's Jack Kiser, who committed Tuesday, as the only linebackers in the class.
