JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

Newcomer Ben Moore converted two free throws with four seconds left to lead the Mad Ants to a 53-52 victory over the Grand Rapids Drive in a two-quarter scrimmage on Saturday in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

The Mad Ants had lost 68-58 to the Canton Charge in another two-quarter scrimmage earlier in the day.

Against Grand Rapids, Moore had a team-leading nine points, including 3-of-4 shooting over 20:55 of play. A rookie who had been in training camp with the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, Moore had three rebounds and two steals.

Walter Lemon Jr. had eight points and the Mad Ants recovered from a four-point deficit at the midway point.

Against Canton, DeQuan Jones and C.J. Fair were the standouts with 10 points for the Mad Ants, who open their regular season next Saturday at Uniondale, New York.

Jones was 3 of 4 from the field and Fair was 4 of 8. After giving up 16 of the first 20 points, the Mad Ants used an early 8-0 run to get back in the game.
