Who will Mad Ants start?

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

Today is the eighth day of Mad Ants' training camp and things are starting to come together. The Mad Ants made their first two cuts, releasing J.D. Tisdale Jr. and Jamaal Samuel. Tisdale had been the team's third-round pick in the G League draft on Oct. 21.

There are 13 players on the Mad Ants' roster, not including Alex Poythress and Edmond Sumner, who are on two-way contracts and currently with the Indiana Pacers. Sumner is recovering from knee and shoulder surgery, anyway.

The Mad Ants have to have their roster delivered to the league by 5 p.m. Thursday and it seems as though two more cuts will come, since Trey McKinney Jones is still on the mend from a shoulder injury.

We obviously haven't gotten to see much of the Mad Ants in game action -- they played two-quarter scrimmages Saturday against Grand Rapids and Canton, winning one of them -- but were I to guess at the starting lineup for the Nov. 4 season opener against the Long Island Nets it would be C.J. Fair, DeQuan Jones, Jarrod Uthoff, Walter Lemon Jr. and Stephan Hicks. Ben Moore, who has been raved about at both Pacers and Mad Ants camps, would probably be the first off the bench.

Of course, if Poythress is sent down, which is less a sure thing with the Myles Turner injury, that would alter the Mad Ants' lineup greatly. I also can't imagine Uthoff not getting called up quickly.
