Mad Ants pregame
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
Key for Ants? Defense.
The Mad Ants may be on a five-game win streak heading into the 7 p.m. game at Memorial Coliseum against the Maine Red Claws, who ousted them from the playoffs last season.
Coming off the second-best defensive performance of the season, the Mad Ants are going to have to be good defensively. Maine (4-2) is averaging 113 points per game, almost seven more than Fort Wayne (5-1), and is making 44.5 percent of its shots.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Mad Ants can continue to get scoring from players other than Walt Lemon Jr., who is averaging 25.2 points. He led them in scoring in every game until Monday’s victory over Canton, when C.J. Fair had a team-best 26 and Lemon had 13.
There’s nothing wrong with Lemon leading the charge, but the Mad Ants need other options too.
Look for Jarrod Uthoff to start taking a bigger role in the offensive game plan. He’s been on the cusp of breaking through. The same goes for Stephan Hicks.
