Hollins shines in Mad Ants' victory
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
Tra-Deon Hollins has had to be patient this season, playing behind arguably the G League’s top player, point guard Walt Lemon Jr.
But Sunday he got to show what he can truly do with a terrific fourth-quarter performance in which Hollins, a rookie, had 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, with four assists and two steals, propelling the Mad Ants to a 105-79 victory over the Lakeland Magic in front of 2,015 fans at Memorial Coliseum.
“It was exciting. I was just trying to go out there and do my job, push the tempo and make everybody better,” Hollins said.
“I knew my time would come. I’m playing behind the best point guard in the G League so I’ve had to be even keel, just get better and learn from him.”
Jarrod Uthoff had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Lemon had 18 points and six assists, but his services weren’t needed in the fourth quarter of a game in which Fort Wayne (14-10) came back from a 12-point deficit to win its third straight game.
Lakeland (13-10) was paced by Jamel Artis’ 20 points.
DeQuan Jones added 17 points for the Mad Ants, who avenged two earlier losses to the Magic in Florida.
