Mad Ants, Jones hold off Hustle in victory

DeQuan Jones kept up his torrid pace with a team-high 25 points to lead the Mad Ants to a 118-112 victory over the Memphis Hustle at Landers Center.

In front of 2,491 fans, Jones made 11 of 17 shots but his team had to hold off a late rally by the Hustle, which scored 44 of the final 69 points Saturday night.

Jones has averaged 25.3 points over his last three games.

Seven players scored in double figures for Fort Wayne, including Jarrod Uthoff with 17 points and nine rebounds. Trey McKinney Jones had 14 points. Walt Lemon Jr. had 13. Jamil Wilson had 12. C.J. Fair had 11. And Stephan Hicks added 10.

Edmond Sumner, who continues to be on a minutes restriction as he recovers from a knee injury, had seven points on 2-of-5 shooting in 15 minutes for the Mad Ants.

The Mad Ants have won 4 of 6 games heading into Tuesday’s game in Canton, Ohio, against the Charge and former Homestead and Purdue player Caleb Swanigan.

At 11 a.m. Thursday, the Mad Ants play host to the Wisconsin Herd. Former Bishop Luers and Indiana star James Blackmon Jr. made his debut Saturday with Wisconsin and totaled five points on 2-of-5 shooting in 17 minutes.

Fort Wayne (18-3) has a 2½-game lead over Wisconsin for first place in the Central Division. Memphis (12-19) was paced Saturday by Chance Comanche’s 33 points – making 15 of 16 shots – while Kobi Simmons had 32 points.
