Ants swept in Lone Star State

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

The Mad Ants fought their way back from a dismal start, but they wound up losing just the same – 117-105 to the Texas Legends in front of 5,562 fans at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas, tonight.

Fort Wayne lost all three of its games in the Lone Star State but returns to Memorial Coliseum to face the Delaware 87ers at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Mad Ants’ lead in the Central Division is down to two games over the Grand Rapids Drive.

DeQuan Jones continued his torrid pace for the Mad Ants (25-19) with 37 points, making 13 of 19 shots, but his team fell behind 31-19 early.

Jones’ 3-point play with 4:02 left cut the Legends’ lead to three at 103-100 but Brandon Ashley answered with a layup that kicked off an 8-2 run that sealed the victory.

Trey McKinney Jones had 18 points for Fort Wayne, which had won five straight games before it lost to Austin, Rio Grande Valley and the Legends (25-18).

Ike Anigbogu had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Mad Ants, who played yet again without Edmond Sumner (bereavement leave) and were felled by 18 turnovers, seven more than the Legends had.

Texas was paced by Johnathan Motley’s 32 points – he missed only one of his 14 shots – and Jalen Jones added 30 points. Ashley had 24 points.

Fort Wayne’s Jarrod Uthoff had eight points and five rebounds against the team spent time with late last season, after he’d been signed by the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.
