Mad Ants were 1-2 against both potential opponents

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

Fans of the Mad Ants will want to keep track of the game 7 p.m. Tuesday between the Erie BayHawks and the Lakeland Magic because the winner will be Fort Wayne’s opponent in the second round of the G League playoffs.

Fort Wayne is the Central Division champion and second seed in the Eastern Conference and, therefore, gets a bye through the single-elimination first round.

It will play host to a single-elimination second-round game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Coliseum, where tickets are on sale.

During the regular season, the Mad Ants lost 2 of 3 games to the BayHawks, but that included Saturday’s game in which Fort Wayne rested its star players, namely Walt Lemon Jr. and DeQuan Jones, because its playoff position was fixed. The BayHawks won 113-99 to clinch the Southeast Division title and the third seed in the conference.

Against the Magic, which is the sixth and lowest seed in the conference, the Mad Ants also lost 2 of 3 games. But the Mad Ants won the only meeting since early December, thwarting Lakeland 105-79 at the Coliseum on Jan. 7.
