Blackhawk grad's team into TBT quarterfinals
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
A day after the Fort Wayne Champs fell out of The Basketball Tournament, the $2-million winner-take-all event, local hopes of seeing a championship remained alive in the form of Eberlein Drive.
The Drive’s general manager is Matt Mitchell, a Blackhawk Christian graduate, and his team surged into the final eight with a 72-59 victory in Atlanta over Gael Force today.
Jerome Randle led the seventh-seeded Drive, which has competed in all five years of TBT, with 34 points as it defeated a team of third-seeded St. Mary’s alumni. The Drive’s roster includes a bevy of former NBA players and prospects, including James Michael McAdoo, Willie Reed and Christian Watford, a former Mad Ants player.
On Sunday, the Drive plays top-seeded Team Challenge ALS for a chance to go to the semifinals in Baltimore. It will be televised on ESPN2.
