Gray erupts in Mad Ants' victory
JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette
Rob Gray scored 31 points – the most of his rookie season – in leading the Mad Ants to a 113-94 victory over the Oklahoma City Blue in front of an announced crowd of 3,142 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday night.
Gray converted 10 of 14 shots, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and he added five rebounds and four assists for the Mad Ants (7-7) in upending one of the G League’s top teams.
Fort Wayne needed the performance as it was without Edmond Sumner (hamstring) and Ike Anigbogu (thumb), though they may have Alize Johnson back from the NBA’s Indiana Pacers in time for Monday’s 7 p.m. game at Memorial Coliseum against Rio Grande Valley.
Stephan Hicks added 20 points and seven rebounds for the Mad Ants, who got 14 points and nine rebounds from Davon Reed.
Je’lon Horneak and Travin Thibodeaux had nine points apiece, Thibodeaux accruing 13 rebounds for the Mad Ants in a game that saw them jump out to a 31-19 lead. Their lead at halftime was 56-40.
Oklahoma City (13-4) got 24 points and 14 rebounds from Richard Solomon. Dez Wells added 20 points.
The Mad Ants, who haven’t won back-to-back games since they were 3-1, now have a chance to break that streak.
