The Mad Ants returned from the all-star break with a 140-129 loss to the Delaware Blue Coats at 76ers Fieldhouse in front of an announced crowd of 1,650 in Wilmington, Delaware, on Wednesday night.
Rookie Rob Gray had another solid game, making 11 of 19 shots for 28 points with eight assists and seven rebounds. Veteran Omari Johnson had 28 points, too, along with eight rebounds.
Fort Wayne (19-18) has lost three of its last four games.
Jovan Mooring, who was signed by the Mad Ants on Tuesday, made his debut. The rookie out of UNLV had 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Travin Thibodeaux added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Mad Ants.
Fort Wayne’s Je’lon Hornbeak served the second game of his five-game G League suspension for violating the anti-drug policy.
The Mad Ants were without Alize Johnson and Davon Reed, who had both been called up to the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, as well as Edmond Sumner, whose two-way contract was converted to a standard contract in the wake of Victor Oladipo’s season-ending injury.
Delaware (16-20) was paced by Matt Farrell’s 26 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Rashad Vaughn had 22 points.
