Stephan Hicks had 25 points and seven rebounds, but the Mad Ants lost 112-107 to the Atlantic Division-leading Maine Red Claws on Saturday at the D-League Showcase in Mississauga, Ontario.
As was the case last year, the Mad Ants went winless in two games at the Showcase, an event in which all the D-League teams participate in front of NBA scouts.
Hicks made 7 of 16 shots and 9 of 13 free throws for the Mad Ants (15-9), who trail Raptors 905 by 2½ games for first place in the Central Division.
Rookie Alex Poythress had 21 points and 14 rebounds for Fort Wayne, which had a season-low for points in its 102-78 loss to the Windy City Bulls at the Showcase on Thursday.
Joe Young, who was sent down by the NBA’s Indiana Pacers to play in the Showcase, had four points on 2-of-7 shooting. Rakeem Christmas, who accompanied him from the Pacers, played only three minutes and was scoreless. Ben Bentil, in his second game since returning from China, had three points in nine minutes.
For Maine (18-9), Jalen Jones had 29 points and Abdel Nader added 23.
The Red Claws led by only four with just 1:46 remaining, after Travis Leslie, who had 15 points off the bench, sank a 3-pointer for the Mad Ants. But Jones answered with a layup for a 108-102 lead and the Mad Ants missed seven of their final nine shots in front of an announced crowd of 1,306 at the Hershey Centre.
Trey McKinney Jones had 17 points and Julyan Stone had four points with 10 assists for the Mad Ants.
