Alex Poythress scored 28 points, more than he had in his previous 12 games, but the Mad Ants lost 121-116 to the Canton Charge on Saturday night in Canton, Ohio.
It snapped the Mad Ants’ three-game winning streak.
Kay Felder led the Charge with 41 points on 11-of-21 shooting. He was 6 of 9 from 3-point range and a perfect 13 for 13 at the free-throw line.
Jordan Loyd had 17 points for the Mad Ants (22-16), who got 16 points and eight rebounds from Travis Leslie.
In his second game with Fort Wayne, Tyler Hansbrough, a veteran of seven NBA seasons, had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
John Holland added 16 points for Canton (22-17), which is a half-game back of Fort Wayne for second place in the Central Division. Raptors 905 has a 7½-game edge on Fort Wayne.
The Charge outscored the Mad Ants 31-22 in the first quarter, but the Mad Ants responded with a 35-28 run in front of 3,414 fans at Canton Memorial Civic Center.
Trey McKinney Jones’ lay-up with 10:41 left in the third quarter tied it at 59 but the Charge quickly responded with a three Felder free-throws, after he was fouled by Loyd behind the arc. Felder then hit a 3-pointer for a six-point Canton lead.
The Mad Ants tied it again at 101 on a Leslie dunk with 6:00 left in the fourth quarter, but Holland answered with a jump shot and Canton led the rest of the way.
The Mad Ants play Wednesday night against the Salt Lake City Stars in Salt Lake City, Utah.
