Cougars defeat rival Marian

INDIANAPOLIS – Top-ranked Saint Francis beat No. 8 Marian 31-24 on Saturday at St. Vincent Field.
Defending NAIA national champion Cougars (5-0) now leads the all-time series 7-6 in the Franciscan Bowl battle.
Saint Francis, which trailed 14-0 in the first quarter, outscored Marian 14-0 in the second half.
The Knights (2-2) won national titles in 2015 and 2012.
Marian had beaten Saint Francis the last two times, including last year for the Cougars’ lone loss. Saint Francis has won a school-record 14 straight games since that defeat.
Nick Ferrer threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns, bringing his career total to 117 scoring passes, three from the No. 2 spot (120) in NAIA history. Rocky James (163) and Dan Ricksy (146, TD) were each over 100 yards receiving.
Justin Green had 138 yards rushing, scored twice, one rushing and one receiving. Green’s 10-yard touchdown run with 6:50 left gave the Cougars a 31-24 advantage.
Sean Boswell also caught a touchdown passes.
