Buoyed by its defense, Saint Francis cruised to a 30-3 win over Northwestern (Iowa) in the NAIA quarterfinals Saturday at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
The defending national champion and No. 1 Cougars (12-0) forced the No. 10 Red Raiders (10-2) into four turnovers, including three interceptions. Saint Francis outgained Northwestern 354-245.
Saint Francis advanced to its third straight appearance in the NAIA semifinals.
Justin Green ran for 180 yards and scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, while Nick Ferrer shook off a tough first half and threw for three touchdowns, also tossing two scoring strikes to Dan Ricksy, who was named the Offensive Player of the Game.
Linebacker Eric Dunten was named the Defensive Player of the Game after getting 10 tackles. Getting interceptions were Blake Schumacher, Stan Jackson and Wilmer Cole.
Northwestern had beat No. 7 Langston 55-7 last week in an NAIA opener.
