Tech women's lacrosse rallies past Kalamazoo


The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team opened its 2018 home schedule Tuesday by rallying from a five-goal halftime deficit to defeat NCAA Division III foe Kalamazoo College, 11-10, at Warrior Athletic Field.

The Hornets scored three goals in the first five minutes, but Tech responded with goals from Kristina Scott and Sam Vikstrom at 20:28 and 19:36, respectively, to cut the deficit to one. The visitors answered with four consecutive goals and entered the locker room leading 8-3 after 30 minutes.

Vikstrom scored on the woman-advantage at the 00:19 to cut the deficit in half while goals from Heidi Tremaine nd Scott kept the Warriors within striking distance. Trailing 10-6 with 6:36 to go in the game, the fourth-ranked team in the nation scored five goals as it improved to 3-0.

Scott started the scoring as the hosts were down a woman with 6:36 on the clock while Bailey Childs and Tremaine shot’s both found the back of the cage with 5:58 and 4:18 left in the game, respectively. Scott tied the match at 10-10 with 3:52 to play while Vikstrom notched the game-winner with 83 seconds left to go to give Tech the win.

Anna Hartman made four saves as the freshman came on in relief with 13:58 to play in the first half to pick up her first win of the season.

Tech starts a six-game road trip with a pair of games in Florida starting with No. 9-ranked Keiser on Friday. Opening draw is 2 p.m. at Arrigo-Vecellio Field.
