Hinen leads Saint Francis to 1st-round victory

Derek Hinen scored 32 points to lead the Saint Francis men’s basketball team to an 83-73 victory over Keiser (Florida) in the opening round of the NAIA Division II National Championship tournament at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, tonight.

Hinen made 13 of 18 shots for the Cougars, who got 26 of their points off turnovers.

Chandler White had 21 points and eight rebounds for Saint Francis. And Bryce Lienhoop had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Keiser was paced by Deion McClenton’s 24 points.

Saint Francis took advantage of its physical play, drawing 20 fouls (13 more than Keiser) and using that to get 16-of-21 free-throw shooting. Keiser was only 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.
