IPFW golfer Brinker wins Summit honor

IPFW's Eric Brinker was named Summit League men's golfer of the week after posting back-to-back top three finishes at the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational (March 1-2) and Lonnie Barton Invitational (March 5-6).

It is the first-career weekly league honor for Brinker, who carded a 6-under-par 138 score at the Lonnie Barton Invitational. The freshman from Evansville, finished in first-place by four strokes among a field of 94, turning in back-to-back 69's at the 36-hole tournament. Brinker's two-round total now ranks second-best in Mastodon golf history, while his 6-under tally is the lowest score ever for an IPFW golfer in relation to par.

At the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational, Brinker carded a 6-over 222 scorecard and a third-place finish, only four shots off the lead. At both tournaments, the Mastodons earned second-place team finishes.

IPFW returns to play March 25-27 for the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia.
