Ball State's men's golf team holds the lead after the first round of the MAC Championships thanks to two rounds under par for senior Michael VanDeventer, the tournament's individual leader following Friday's 36 holes at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
The Cardinals shot 595 as a team, finishing 19 over par and four strokes in front of defending champion Kent State, which came in ranked No. 25 nationally.
Ball State was in fourth after the first 18 holes, but shot a 293 in the second round. No other team broke 300 in the second 18. Four Cardinals are in the top 15 individually, including seniors Johnny Watts and Michael Makris and junior Timothy Wiseman.
