Purdue announces non-conference schedule
Purdue announced its men's basketball non-conference schedule Thursday morning, a slate that includes matchups with Texas, a 2018 NCAA Tournament team, and Notre Dame in the Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis.
The game against Texas, which went 19-15 last season, will be played in Austin, the first of a home-and-home series between the teams. The last time Purdue played the Longhorns was in the 2003 NCAA Tournament, when Texas was a No. 1 seed and beat the ninth-seeded Boilers 77-67.
Purdue's 121st season will begin Nov. 6 with a game at Mackey Arena against Fairfield, which the Boilers beat 106-64 when they met last season. After that, the Boilers remain at home for a matchup with Ball State on Nov. 10, which will be the first game between those teams since 2012.
The Boilermakers' matchup at Bankers Life Fieldhouse against Notre Dame will be Dec. 15. On the same day, Indiana will play Butler, part of the annual series that stretches back to 2011. Notre Dame went 21-15 last season and fell to Penn State in the NIT.
In mid-November, Purdue will play in the Charleston Classic in South Carolina, a tournament that will feature 2018 NCAA Tournament teams Wichita State, Alabama, Davidson and Virginia Tech, as well as Appalachian State and Northeastern. The Boilers will play three games in the tournament on Nov. 15, 16 and 18.
Purdue will play 11 non-conference games, of which 10 were announced Thursday. The final game yet to be determined is the ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup, which will take place in late November.
