The Mastodons were picked to finish 8th in the 2018 Summit League Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll. Purdue Fort Wayne tied with Western Illinois, each receiving 12 votes to round out the poll. The leagues nine head coaches selected Denver to finish first with 61 points. The Pioneers are coming off an 11-9-1 season in 2017, including a Summit League championship.
Purdue Fort Wayne's senior midfielder Paityn Fleming was listed as a player to watch this season. In 2017, Fleming Started all 18 games, playing all available minutes in 13 of those matches. She also scored a goal and added two assists to tally four points last season.
The Mastodons open the season at home Aug.17 as they play host to Ball State at 5 p.m.
