Konchar, Evans honored by Summit League
IPFW sophomore forward John Konchar was named Thursday to the All-Summit League first team, becoming the first Mastodon with first-team honors in consecutive seasons since Frank Gaines in 2012-13.
In addition, IPFW placed senior Mo Evans on the all-league second team and fellow guard Bryson Scott on the All-Newcomer team.
Konchar is averaging 14.9 points and a team-high 9.1 rebounds per game. Evans averages 17.2 points and 6.2 assists, and Scott is second on the Mastodons in scoring (16.7) and third in rebounding (4.9).
IPFW, which went 19-11 in the regular season, is the No. 6 seed in the league tournament and opens play Sunday against No. 3 seed Omaha.
Omaha has Tra-Deon Hollins won Summit League Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season.
South Dakota State's Mike Daum, second in Division I in scoring at 24.9 points per game was named Player of the Year, and South Dakota's Craig Smith won Coach of the Year. Sixth Man of the Year went to North Dakota State's Dexter Werner, and Emmanuel Nzekwesi of Oral Roberts claimed Freshman of the Year.
Joining Konchar on the first team are Daum, Hollins, Tyler Flack of South Dakota, Paul Miller of North Dakota State and Matt Mooney of South Dakota.
Accompanying Evans on the second team are Werner, Daniel Amigo of Denver, Garret Covington of Western Illinois and Marcus Tyus of Omaha.
