Tech's Correia earns All-American honors
The Indiana Tech women’s indoor track and field team finished the opening day of the NAIA National Indoor Championships in fourth place with five points and had freshman Leondra Correia earn All-American honors.
At Gentry Field in Johnson City, Tennessee, Correia came in fourth in the pentathlon to rack up 3,360 points and set a new school record.
Correia finished second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.99 and took seventh in the high jump (1.55 meters) and 14th in the shot put (8.34) and was in sixth place after three events. She then cleared 5.59 to win the long jump before winding up 10th in the 800 (2:35.75) to climb two spots to fourth place overall.
Also, Indiana Tech's 1,600 relay of Patricia Thompson, Patience Kennedy, Sha’londa Terry and Araya Williams clocked a season-best 3:50.97 to finish in first overall and move on to the semifinals.
