Trine women lose in NCAA Division III tournament
The Trine women's basketball team lost 55-48 to Ohio Northern in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament at Ohio Northern Sports Center in Ada, Ohio, on Saturday.
The No. 15 Thunder finish the season 26-2, while the No. 5 Polar Bears improved to (29-0).
Montana Martin led Trine with 15 points, while Cassidy Williams added nine.
Brandi Dawson (eight points) and Hayley Martin (seven points) combined to make 7 of 21 from the field.
The Thunder committed 17 turnovers, while the Bears had only five.
Trine held Ohio Northern to 16 of 53 (30 percent) shooting from the field, but the Bears made 18 of 20 (90 percent) from the free-throw line. The Thunder was 3 of 4 from the line.
The Thunder beat Illinois Wesleyan 63-56 in the first round.
Trine won the school's first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season and tournament championships, while making its first appearance in the Division III women's basketball tournament.
