Nuisance property ordinance proposal to be revived
DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette
The previously tabled nuisance property ordinance will be reintroduced to the Fort Wayne City Council on Sept. 26.
During the council comment portion of Tuesday's meeting, Councilman Tom Didier, R-3rd, who is sponsoring the proposal, said he plans to reach out to Fort Wayne's area partnerships, starting with the Southeast Area Partnership meeting tonight.
The previous version of the bill, dubbed the Chronic Problem Property ordinance, was tabled in December 2016.
Didier said the focus of the rewritten bill will be to handle nuisances on commercial properties. That focus, Didier said, is why he previously supported tabling a bill sponsored by Councilman Russ Jehl, R-2nd, that would limit performance hours at local strip clubs.
"Not that I wouldn't consider bringing Russ' bill back in the future, because I think Russ' bill had a lot of merit to what he was trying to have done," Didier said. "We tabled the CPP ordinance over a year ago and this is how government works."
