Republicans hope to replace Busch on County Council

DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette

Two Allen County residents have thrown their hats into the ring to replace outgoing County Councilman Justin Busch as he prepares to take over for retiring State Sen. David Long.

Republican Adam Welch this week announced his intention to seek Busch's seat when the Allen County Republican Party holds a caucus in the coming weeks. It's not yet clear when a caucus will be held.

"Our county continues to be recognized across the state and region for its welcoming business climate and disciplined fiscal responsibility," Welch said in a statement. "I hope to earn the opportunity to serve Allen County residents in order to protect taxpayers while also setting a vision for our community's future."

Republican Kyle Kerley, chairman of Fort Wayne's Legacy Joint Funding Committee, is also seeking to replace Busch.

"Today is a new day and new challenges face the taxpayers of Allen County," Kerley said in a statement this month. "County Council serves as the fiscal steward of your tax dollars. As we face these new challenges, we must do so with vigilance to get the most out of each dollar spent, whether it be for infrastructure, roads, libraries or public safety."
