Homestead senior Karissa McLaughlin was awarded the 2017 Tiffany Gooden Award on Monday as the SAC's best basketball player – male or female – in an awards ceremony co-sponsored by The Journal Gazette and Parkview Sports Medicine.

McLaughlin beat out teammate Madisen Parker, North Side's Jaylen Butz and Snider's Malik Williams for the Gooden Award, which is annual presented by Tiffany Gooden.

A finalist for Miss Basketball, the 5-foot-8 guard capped off her career with a 4A state championship at Bankers Life Fieldhouse with a 61-54 win over Indianapolis Pike in February.

McLaughlin, who switched her college of choice from Florida to Purdue after a coaching change with the Gators, averaged 25.8 points, 5.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds.

She was the leading vote-getter for the Associated Press All-State team and will be battling it out with Gary West's Dana Evans for Miss Basketball honors.

Also receiving awards were North Side's Shabaz Khaliq and Snider's Jeremy Rauch as SAC Boys Coach of the Year and Homestead's Rod Parker as SAC Girls Coach of the Year.
