Concordia wins tennis sectional


The Concordia girls tennis team defeated Bishop Dwenger 3-2 on Monday night to win the championship match of the Concordia Sectional.

The Cadets won at No. 2 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, with only No. 2 singles going to a third set. Hannah Gerig came out on top 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 over the Saints' Cassidy Klinker.

Remaining undefeated were the Saints' Abby Oswald, who won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles over Concordia's Charity Felton, and teammates Abigail Schreck and Megan Lopez, who beat Concordia's Abigail Minger and Emily Lahey 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.


NORWELL SECTIONAL: Adams Central defeated the host Knights 3-2 in the title match. The Jets' Kyndal Roe and Lily Kintz prevailed 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles against Norwell's Sadie Mann and Abby Hoover. At No. 1 singles, Norwell's Jenna Lehman won 6-4, 6-3 against Breann Barger.


NORWELL SECTIONAL: Columbia City advanced with a 4-2 win over the host Knights despite being outhit 8-7. The Eagles trailed 2-0 after three innings before scoring twice in the fourth and twice in the sixth. They face either Heritage or Mississinewa on Wednesday.

HOMESTEAD SECTIONAL: The host Spartans threw a no-hitter against Wayne and prevailed 18-0. The winning pitcher was Maddie Parker.

ANGOLA SECTIONAL: Garrett beat New Haven 7-0 behind multi-hit performances from Kierra Richards and Ryanne Arambula. The Railroaders advance to face Bishop Dwenger today in a semifinal game.
