Montgomery leads Bellmont softball to sectional title
Macy Montgomery struck out 17 batters and gave up only one hit over all seven innings, as the Bellmont softball team defeated Columbia City 6-0 on Saturday to win the Class 3A sectional in Ossian.
Bellmont had 10 hits, including a Jenna Busick home run. She was 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored two runs.
Montgomery went 2 for 4, as did Sarah Enterline and Meghan Busick.
Bellmont scored a run in both the first and second innings, then cemented the victory with four runs in the top of the sixth.
HOMESTEAD 4, HUNTINGTON NORTH 3: At Homestead, Maddie Parker got the victory and hit the double in the bottom of the seventh that won the Class 4A sectional championship. The only other extra-base hit of the game was by Huntington North pitcher Hannah Middlebrook.
CONCORDIA 5, BISHOP DWENGER 4: At Angola, the Cadets trailed 4-1 heading into the sixth inning and then got four runs in the bottom of the inning and won the Class 3A sectional title.
SOUTH ADAMS 7, CHURUBUSCO 5: In Monroe, Katelin Augsburger struck out 13 and walked five, giving up five runs off six hits in seven innings, and she was 2 for 4 at the plate for the Starfires in the championship game of a Class 2A sectional. Morgan Alberson was also 2 for 4 for South Adams, which withstood a four-run rally from the Eagles in the final two innings.
HUNTINGTON NORTH 6, WAYNE 3: In Huntington, Ian McCutcheon and Jarret Gray had doubles as the Vikings won in a Class 4A sectional game at home. Wayne made things interesting to finish the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Huntington North’s Elliot Lesperance was 2 for 4 and stole a base, and he pitched five innings, striking out three and walking one, while giving up one run on five hits.
HOMESTEAD 18, SOUTH SIDE 0: In Huntington, Brady Harkness pitched all five innings, giving up two hits and striking out four with two walks. He was also 2 for 4. Luke Wilcox, who was 2 for 3, had a home run for the Spartans in the Class 4A sectional. Justin Miller, Zach Schwartz and Nick Davit had three hits apiece as Homestead racked up 18.
SNIDER 5, EAST NOBLE 4: At Waterloo, Snider scored the final four runs, including the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, to win at a Class 4A sectional. East Noble’s Cade Erwin had a home run.
SOUTH ADAMS 6, BLUFFTON 2: At Canterbury, Jayden Dull had a double for the Starfires in a Class 2A sectional game, in which they out-hit Bluffton 11-3.
FREMONT 12, BETHANY CHRISTIAN 1: At Blackhawk Christian, Rhett Evans was 3 for 3 with a triple, two RBI and a run in a Class A sectional game. Fremont had 11 of the game’s 14 hits.
HAMILTON 4, TRITON 3: At Blackhawk Christian, Dustin Cool was 2 for 4 with two steals, an RBI and a run for the Marines.
