Snider topples DeKalb for Class 4A sectional title


Snider won 8-6 over host DeKalb for the Panthers' second Class 4A sectional title in three years.

In the second, the Panthers got a two-RBI double from Michael Brewer and an RBI double from Trevor Armstrong to go up 3-1.

Mac Hippenhammer scored for Snider in the fourth after drawing a walk and coming in on an infield error. Brewer added another run to make it 5-1.

DeKalb got within 5-4 with three runs in the top of the sixth, but the Panthers responded with runs from Hippenhammer, Brewer and Armstrong to go up 8-4.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 2, HOMESTEAD 1: At Huntington University, the Vikings' two runs in the first made the difference as they were able to hold off the Spartans to win the program's 20th sectional title and first since 2011.

Trey Williams' only hit of the game brought in Elliot Lesperance and Ian McCutcheon.

Drew DelaCuesta scored off Justin Miller in the top of the fourth for the Spartans.

NORWELL 13, HERITAGE 3: At Bellmont, the Knights won their first 3A sectional title since 2014 in a five-inning rout of the Patriots.

Caleb Kohler went 3 for 2 with an RBI and two runs while Ian Clark went 2 for 3, batting in two runs for Norwell.

SOUTH ADAMS 3, WOODLAN 0: At Canterbury, the Starfires' Grant Besser hit a double and earned the win on the mound as South Adams wins its first sectional title since 2002 and eighth in program history.

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN SECTIONAL SEMIFINALS: In the first semifinal, the hosts defeated Elkhart Memorial 10-4. Jarrett Dailey went 3 for 4 with four RBI for the Braves.

Fremont won over Hamilton 10-0 in five innings as Nathan Mitgard went 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run.
