Bishop Dwenger wins SAC volleyball tournament

Bishop Dwenger won its second consecutive SAC volleyball tournament title with a 3-2 (25-16, 23-25, 25-27, 25-20, 16-14) win over Concordia on Saturday at North Side.
In the decisive fifth set, Bishop Dwenger took a 10-6 lead with a 6-0 run but Concordia responded with a 9-3 run of its own to make it 14-13.
The Saints battled back with three straight to capture the championship secured on a kill from Anna Burkhardt.
Bishop Dwenger jumped to a 6-1 lead in the fourth and led by as much as 14-7. Toward the end, the Cadets were gaining momentum, closing on an 8-4 run but it wasn't enough as the Saints closed it out to force a fifth set.
The momentum continued into the third as the Cadets never trailed and only stood tied at 25, leading by as much as 19-13. Josie Sauer killed two of Concordia's final three points to take a 2-1 lead.
In the middle of the second, the Cadets used a 5-1 run to break a 14-all tie to go up 19-14. The Saints fought back to tie it at 22 but Concordia scored four of the set's last five points to tie the game.
Bishop Dwenger took the first set after using an 8-1 run to take a 13-7 lead and close it out with a 5-2 run.
