East Noble wins Baron Classic

JOURNAL GAZETTE

East Noble won the Baron Cross Country Classic on Saturday in Waterloo with a score of 46, paced by the second-place finish of Kayla McCulloch. She finished in 18:21.28.

That was just behind the winning time of 18:01.90 from defending individual state champion Tyler Schwartz of DeKalb. Teammate Lauren Beckmann was third in 18:39.84.

East Noble's Olivia Smolinske was fourth in 19:43.64.

Huntington North finished second in the team competition with 83 points, paced by the fifth-place finish of Alena Miller (19:56.22).

Columbia City was third with 87 points.

Despite the first- and third-place finishers, DeKalb placed sixth as a team.

 

Girls golf

BI-COUNTY TOURNAMENT: In Bluffton, Megan Rickord had a tournament-best 83 at Timber Ridge to lead Bellmont to a 369 and the victory. Teammate Emma Ainsworth had a 91 and Libby Miller added a 93. South Adams was second with a 404, paced by Kaiti Gorrell’s 84. Autumn Nelson shot an 85 to lead Norwell to a third-place 410.

Boys soccer

CARROLL 0, CONCORDIA 0: Joey Rucinski had seven saves for Concordia and Colin Coplen had six for Carroll.

Girls soccer

BISHOP LUERS 2, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 2: Ashlynn and Katelynn Gray both scored for Luers. Scoring for Blackhawk were Courtney McKown and Quinn Doden.

WHITKO 4, MACONAQUAH 3: Ella Danner scored the first goal of her high-school career for Whitko, which got a penalty kick goal from Charlotte Cripe.

Boys tennis

ADAMS CENTRAL 5, NORTH SIDE 0: Jaxson Rinkenberger defeated Cam Woehnker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and the Jets didn’t lose a game the entire match.

Volleyball

HUNTINGTON NORTH INVITATIONAL: The host Vikings won the championship match 2-1 over McCutcheon. Maddy Robrock had seven kills and Kaitlyn Stephan had 23 assists in the 28-26, 21-26, 15-12 victory.
