Early surge powers Bishop Dwenger girls past Garrett


Bishop Dwenger scored the game’s first 17 points to dispatch Garrett in Class 3A girls basketball sectional play Wednesday, 75-29, at Dwenger.

Ellen Ross scored 19 points to lead four Saints in double figures. On a night where Dwenger (12-8) shot 63 percent (26 of 41) from the field, Grace Renbarger added 14 points, while Olivia Sterba and Caitlyn Ryan had 13 and 10, respectively.

Kenzie Casselman knocked down four three-pointers for the Railroaders (8-15), finishing with 15.

ANGOLA 59, WOODLAN 29: Freshman Hanna Knoll led all scorers with 21 in the nightcap for the Hornets (22-3), while Ali Cranston finished with 10 and Ally Lorntz and Regan Peppler both added eight. Angola, winners of 11 straight, will play Dwenger in the second semifinal Friday.

Addison Bayman finished with 17 points for the Warriors (8-15).

Class 4A

At Concord

WARSAW 44, CONCORD 27: At Dunlap, the Tigers ran their win streak over the Minutemen to 42 games.

Warsaw (15-8) got 14 points from Emma Bohnenkamper and nine apiece from Maddie Ryman and Kacy Bragg. The Tigers will face NLC foe Elkhart Memorial, a 40-26 winner over Goshen on Wednesday, in semifinal action Friday.

Class 3A

At Bellmont

BELLMONT 65, HERITAGE 31: At Decatur, the Braves eclipsed last season’s win total, knocking off the Patriots to improve to 19-4. Bellmont will face Marion in Friday’s second semifinal, as the Giants thumped Mississinewa, 60-23.

Grace Hunter scored 27 to lead the Braves, which held Heritage (9-13) to just two points in the third quarter. Bree Dossen paced the Patriots with 11.

Class 1A

At Bethany Christian

LAKEWOOD PARK 42, ELKHART CHRISTIAN 18: At Benton, the Panthers cruised into the semifinals by limiting the Eagles to just over half their season scoring average.

Lakewood Park (15-5) defeated Elkhart Christian (10-10) for the second time in five days, with the Panthers holding the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter.

FREMONT 39, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 28: In the nightcap, the Eagles scored the game’s final eight points to knock off the Braves once again, having won the regular-season matchup 45-21 back on Nov. 14.

Fremont (11-12) will face Lakewood Park on Friday in the second semifinal. Blackhawk finished the season 2-21.


CARROLL 56, HUNTINGTON NORTH  43: At Carroll, Dan McKeeman scored 21 points as the Chargers won their ninth straight contest.

Arius Jones added six rebounds and five assists for Carroll (13-2), which outscored the Vikings 23-6 in the second quarter.

Zach Daugherty led Huntington North (14-4) with 13 points, while Hank Pulver added 10 in the loss, which snapped the Vikings’ four-game win streak.
