Blackhawk Christian in regional finals
DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette
CULVER – Blackhawk Christian advanced to tonight's regional championship game with a 79-45 victory over Covenant Christian in the Class A regional semifinals at Culver Community.
Junior Frankie Davidson scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Braves.
The No. 1 Braves (25-2) pulled away near the end of the first quarter. Davidson scored his team's first 13 points and 17 in the opening session and a 10-0 run propelled Blackhawk to a 25-12 advantage after eight minutes. The Braves' lead never shrank to single digits again.
"I thought our guys did a good job of battling," Covenant coach John Heerema said. "They were playing really well, Blackhawk was. Davidson had a great game. His shots in the first half really hurt us."
The game was close in the early stages of the first quarter, and the Knights (23-3) closed to within three at 11-8 when Chris Beezhold dunked in traffic with a foul. The senior center led his team with 12 points. Covenant won its first sectional title in school history last week.
The Braves advance to play Gary 21st Century (22-6) in tonight's championship at 7 p.m. The Cougars moved on to the title game with a 68-48 victory over Elkhart Christian this morning.
