Leo hits 8 homers in game, set state record

JOURNAL GAZETTE

The Leo softball team set a state record Saturday in sweeping a doubleheader 7-0 and 13-0 over Bishop Luers.

In the second game, the Lions hit eight home runs, which breaks the IHSAA record of five home runs in a single game. Four of the home runs were hit in succession, coming from Mackenzie Rust, Ali Davis, Aaliyah Andrews and Kennedy Shade, in the second inning.

Andrews and Shade each hit two home runs, while Rust, Davis, Simia Spahiev and Olivia Simcox had one home run.

Leo coach Ben Shappell is investigating where the eight home runs in a game fits among national records.

The Lions got a no-hitter from Ashley Miller in the first game.
