Adams Central wins ACAC tennis title

JOURNAL GAZETTE

Adams Central beat Jay County 5-0 en route to its fourth straight ACAC girls tennis title Thursday.

Rendi Degitz and Laurel Tijerina led the Jets with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Emily Dirksen and Beth Muhlenkamp at No. 2 doubles. 

Adams Central improved to 10-3.

Baseball

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 4, CARROLL 3: The visiting Braves held off the Chargers behind Kaleb Study's two doubles and two RBI.

Blackhawk Christian's Callan Wood got the win despite giving up four hits and three runs in 2 1/3 innings. 

BELLMONT 9, LEO 1: Noah Macklin got the win as the Braves rolled past the host Lions. Bellmont scored five times in the fourth inning and twice in each the third and seventh innings.

Boys golf

CANTERBURY 153, CARROLL 171: Carson Stohler led the Cavaliers with a 32, earning medalist honors at Chestnut Hills. Camdyn Cobler added a 38 and Arnie Lai a 40. For the Chargers, Ben Jackson had a 40.

HOMESTEAD 144, COLUMBIA CITY 174: Garrett Willis, Adam Delong and Braden Kattman all had a 35 to lead the visiting Spartans at Eagle Glen.

 

Spencer McCammon's 38 led the Eagles.

BISHOP LUERS 162, NORTHROP 187: At Brookwood, Carston Fritz led the Knights with a 38, while Mark Sturm added a 41. Dylan Davis' 40 led the Bruins.

ANGOLA 159, PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 210: Ian Smith earned medalist honors with a 36, while teammate Drew Dunham was next with a 38 at Cedar Lake. 

Boys tennis

HUNTINGTON NORTH 5, DEKALB 0: Tarah Zumbrun's 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 3 singles led the host Vikings. Huntington North improved to 10-1 with the win.

NORWELL 5, EAST NOBLE 0: At No. 3 singles, Grace White earned a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Sam Ley at No. 3 singles for the host Knights, who improved to 12-1.

Softball

SOUTH ADAMS 20, SOUTHERN WELLS 1: Kayla LeFever went 4 for 5 with five RBI and three runs scored for the host Starfires. Jenna Myers added three RBI for South Adams. 

WHITKO 17, WAYNE 0: The host Wildcats got two singles, a triple and home run from Emmy Duggins and Augusta Garr in the win. Ellie Snep added a home run and a single.
