No. 1 North Side loses in wild ending

JOURNAL GAZETTE

Class 4A No. 1 North Side fell 74-73 at South Bend Riley on Tuesday.

The teams exchanged the lead several times in the last quarter and the Legends led 67-63 with 44.1 left.

Keion Brooks went to the line for North Side (21-2) with 5.7 seconds remaining. He made his first but a technical was called and the free throw was waved off leaving the Legends ahead 73-70.

The Wildcats (18-2) made two free throws to make it 73-72 and Demezi Anderson was fouled while driving to the bucket with 1.2 seconds left and hit both free throws for the win.

The Legends were led by Jaylen Butz's 25 points and 16 rebounds and Brooks added 16 points.

Anderson led the Wildcats with 27 points and Mo Scott added 17.

HOMESTEAD 70, DEKALB 48: At DeKalb, Jack Ferguson scored 22 points, shooting 9 of 12 from the field, and Brandon Durnell added 18 for the Spartans (19-3).

Logan Kruse scored 18 for the Barons (8-13) and Isaac Brown added 14.

NEW HAVEN 60, BLUFFTON 45: At Bluffton, Whitney Harris scored 23 and James Gardner added 10 for the Bulldogs (17-7). Mitchell Kuhlenbeck led the Tigers (5-16) with 14 points and Max Corle added 12.

BISHOP DWENGER 83, LAKEWOOD PARK 45: At Bishop Dwenger, Campbell Donovan led the Saints (11-10) with 20 points, John Henry Reith added 12, Conlan Martin added 11 and Nick Passino 10.

Keegan Fetters led the Panthers (14-7) with 12.

WAYNE 57, CANTERBURY 52: At Wayne, Craig Young led the Generals (11-11) with 15 points, Demarea Dial added 13 and Darias Alexander 12.

Noah Wolfe scored 10 for the Cavaliers (6-16).

NORWELL 49, CONCORDIA 37: At Norwell, Cole Wilson scored 20 points and Reilly Stauffer added 11 for the Knights (14-9).

Nick Webb and Andrew Marinko each scored eight for the Cadets (3-17).

EASTSIDE 51, WAWASEE 46: At Wawasee, Jordan Yoder scored 17 for the Blazers (18-3) and Jacob Thompson added 11. Jarius Boyer led the Warriors (5-16) with 10.

WINCHESTER 84, SOUTH ADAMS 59: At Winchester, Jared Grabau had 19 points to put him over the 1,000-point milestone, the eighth player in program history to do so. Marcus Teeter added 18 and Terry Dawn 10 for the Starfires (11-10) in the loss.

Austin Lawrence scored 27 for the Golden Falcons (11-10).

HUNTINGTON NORTH 58, NORTHFIELD 28: At Huntington North, Chazz Bruce led the Vikings (17-6) with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line and Hunter Hollowell added 12.

Austin Trump scored 18 for the Norse (8-13).

GOSHEN 71, WEST NOBLE 59: At Goshen, Trevor Franklin scored 16 for the Chargers (8-13) and Larry Nickolson and Nick Knepper each added 14 and Mason Stover had 12.

DIVING

FISHERS REGIONAL: Homestead's Jarrett Miller finished fourth with a score of 380.90 to qualify for Friday's state championship in Indianapolis.

Fishers' Cole VanDevender won the event with a final score of 533.

Carroll's Ethan Hunnicutt finished ninth (321.05), Bellmont's John Girard was 15th (197.10), Bishop Luers' Nate Prendergast 16th (194.55) and Snider's Connor Mihavics 20th (162.0).

MISHAWAKA REGIONAL: Warsaw's Cameron Bowell finished 16th with a score of 192.55. LaPorte's Matt Mitchell won with a 537.96.
