South Side boys topple 3A champ Marion


Courtney Shorter scored 26 points as the South Side boys basketball team beat defending Class 3A state champion Marion 86-71 on the road Saturday.

South Side (2-6) also got 20 points from Trejean Didier and 19 from Mikale Stevenson. Marion, led by former Bishop Luers coach James Blackmon Sr., fell to 3-6. 


BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 72, CONCORDIA 60: The host Braves pulled away after the Cadets got to within 58-57 with four minutes left. Lucas Kroft had 16 points and 14 rebounds for Class A No. 1 Blackhawk Christian (9-4). Concordia (1-6) got 21 points from Adam Gottschalk.

NEW HAVEN 60, DEKALB 51: James Gardner scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs (8-4, 2-0 NE8). For DeKalb (2-8, 0-2), Issac Brown had 16 points.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 37, EAST NOBLE 29: The visiting Vikings outscored the Knights 15-6 in the fourth quarter to win a low-scoring game. Huntington North (8-4, 2-0 NE8) got 10 points from Hunter Hollwell. Hayden Jones led East Noble (7-4, 0-2) with 11 points.

Girls basketball

BISHOP LUERS 43, CANTERBURY 32: The host Knights got 16 points from Taylor Bradley in the win over the Cavaliers. Luers improved to 5-10. Aaina Rongos led Canterbury (5-7) with 11 points.


EAST NOBLE INVITATIONAL: Carroll won the team title with 103.70 points, with Homestead in second with 101.90. Carroll's McKinley Carroll won the all-around title with 34.95 points.


BELLMONT SUPER DUALS: Brownsburg and Perry Meridian each went 5-0 in the tournament. Bellmont was 3-2, while Adams Central was 2-3. 

WEST NOBLE SUPER DUAL: Prairie Heights won the event with a 5-0 record. Jimtown was second at 4-1, winning the head-to-head tiebreaker with Fairfield and Garrett (4-1). West Noble finished 2-3 and Whitko was 0-5.
