Warsaw beats Northridge on buzzer-beating 3

Warsaw senior Kyle Mangas hit a 3-pointer just before the buzzer to defeat Northridge 36-33 at the Class 4A boys basketball sectional at Elkhart Central on Wednesday.

Mangas led the defending sectional champion Tigers (15-9) with 19 points while Nick Yoder led the Raiders (13-10), scoring 13.

In the other first-round game on Wednesday, Elkhart Central (20-2) defeated Penn (10-13) 75-73 in triple-overtime.

WOODLAN SECTIONAL: Canterbury won 65-57 in overtime over Bluffton in the Class 2A sectional. Cam Kreiger led the Cavaliers (8-15) with 20 points, Michael Brothers added 15, Mez Ijomanta 14 and Noah Wolf 10.

Mitchell Kuhlenbeck and Max Corle each had 19 for the Tigers (5-18).

Eastside defeated Adams Central 67-49 to advance to the semifinals.

WESTVIEW SECTIONAL: The hosts defeated Fremont 64-46 in the 2A sectional. Elijah Hales led the Warriors with 16 points while Josh Hostetler and Charlie Yoder each added 15. Wade Regadanz led the Eagles with 21 and Nick Larose added 18.

Central Noble defeated Whitko 62-61 on a 3-point buzzer-beater from Mason Smith. River West led the Wildcats with 20 points, Nate Walpole added 18 and Sroufe 11 in the loss.

Girls Basketball

Fifteen seniors and 15 underclassmen were selected to the IBCA/Subway "Supreme 15" teams, announced Wednesday.

Homestead's Karissa McLaughlin and Madisen Parker and Whitko's Aly Reiff were named to the senior all-state Supreme 15. Warsaw's Dayton Groninger and Concordia's Shania Kelly were named to the Large School All-State team.

DeKalb's Leigha Brown was named to the underclassman Supreme 15 while Concordia's Carissa Garcia was named to the large school all-state team and Central Noble's Sydney Freeman and Meleah Leatherman to the small school.
