Special events

• University of Saint Francis, 2701 Spring St., will celebrate the life the patron saint St. Francis of Assisi during the month of October. On Sunday at 7:30 p.m., David Meinzen, university chaplain, will have a Blessing of the Pets in front of Brookside. The prayer service, “Transitus,” will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Saint Francis Chapel. A Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Saint Francis Chapel.

• The Church Women United of Fort Wayne and Allen County will have its Interfaith Luncheon at noon Monday at Ceruti's, 6601 Innovation Blvd. The Rev. Wayne Guillion will be the speaker. Tickets are $15 and reservations can be made by calling 637-1842.

• New Haven United Methodist Church, 630 Lincoln Highway E., New Haven, will have a rummage sale from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday with $2 early bird shopping from noon to 3 p.m., 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday with a $2 bag sale.

• Restoration Center Church of God in Christ, 5522 McClellan St., will have its Founder's Day Celebration at 1 p.m. Oct. 7 with guest speaker pastor Ivy Butler and at 5 p.m. Oct. 8 with guest speaker bishop Gary Bush.

• Bethany Lutheran Church, 2435 Engle Road, will have a fish and tenderloin dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7. Cost is $9 adults, $6 for ages 5 to 12 and free for ages 4 and younger. Carry-out available by calling 747-0713.

Choir leader hired

First Presbyterian Church of Van Wert, Ohio, has hired Cheryl Gigler as its new chancel choir director. The church also is seeking participants for its Chancel Choir. To participate, call 419-238-3670 or email soprano sheila@yahoo.com.
