Local landmarks turning orange for Make Music Day
Staff, news services
Local landmarks are among those across the country turning orange this week for a global music celebration.
Lights on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge, historic Wells Street Bridge and Ash Skyline downtown will mark Make Music Day on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, says Frank Suarez, Fort Wayne City Utilities spokesman. Orange signifies the sun and start of summer.
Fort Wayne is among more than 60 U.S. cities that will celebrate the annual musical festival Wednesday.
Niagara Falls, Nashville's Parthenon and Boston City Hall are among landmarks being lit in orange. Others include City Hall in Portland, Maine; the Liberty Bridge in Greenville, South Carolina; and the Clock Tower Building in Santa Monica, California.
Make Music Day began in France in 1982 and has since spread to 750 cities across 120 countries. It features free performances by professional and amateur musicians.
