Group underscores Fort Wayne's refugee role

About 60 members of Fort Wayne's religious community Monday gathered to underscore the city's long-standing role as a welcoming place for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers from around the world.
The group met for a news conference at Trinity English Lutheran Church to turn attention to a local document created in solidarity with Tuesday's 16th annual World Refugee Day first declared by the United Nations in 2000.
The event comes at a time when the flight of refugees from war-torn Syria has reached crisis proportions and support for refugees and the agencies that help resettle them are facing cutbacks, attendees said.
