Police on Thursday responded to an afternoon robbery at Chase Bank on Lima Road – the second such occurrence in the area this week.
Police were called to the bank at 9140 Lima Road about 12:40 p.m., according to a news release.
Investigators determined a man entered the bank, approached a teller and gave her a note, instructing her to hand over cash.
“Once the suspect received the money, he exited the bank and was seen getting into the passenger side seat of a newer style silver Jeep Cherokee, which departed the area to the north,” the news release said.
One customer was in the bank at the time.
The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, wearing a black ball cap, glasses, beard, black shirt, and “baggie jeans that were so low-fitting one could see his red boxer style underwear sticking out,” police said in the release.
No weapon was displayed.
About 1 p.m. on Monday, Fort Wayne police responded to an alarm at Fifth Third Bank, 6026 Lima Road.
In that case, police said a man in his early 20s entered the building, approached a teller and handed her a note stating he was robbing the bank.
The man, who did not display a weapon, was given an undisclosed amount of cash before he left on foot heading south, police said.
Surveillance photos from that robbery were released Monday. The robber was described as thin, unshaven, about 6 feet 2 inches, with short hair and a large nose. The man was wearing a red-and-black striped jacket.
Police said a K-9 unit unsuccessfully tried to locate the suspect.
They asked that anyone who may have been in the immediate area and observed a vehicle and a person fitting the description call Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
The robberies were being investigated by city police, the FBI and the Allen County prosecutor’s office.
