Banks names congressional transition team

Brian Francisco | The Journal Gazette

U.S. Rep.-elect Jim Banks announced Thursday that he has formed a five-member congressional transition team to help him prepare to take office in January.

Former Republican state Rep. Casey Cox, a Fort Wayne lawyer, will be the chairman of the team.

Other members are Jennifer Romano, a member of the Columbia City Council and director of the Whitley County Chamber of Commerce Director; Huntington County Commissioner Larry Buzzard; Linda Buskirk, president of Accountable Solutions Inc. in Fort Wayne and twice a GOP mayoral nominee; and Byron Lamm, co-founder and president of the board of the Indiana Policy Review Foundation.

Banks, a former Republican state senator from Columbia City, won election Tuesday in northeast Indiana's 3rd Congressional District. He replaces third-term Republican Rep. Marlin Stutzman, who this year sought the GOP nomination for an open Senate seat.

Banks also said Thursday that he will travel to Washington, D.C., on Monday to participate in a week-long orientation session for incoming House freshmen.
