A homeowner’s discovery of an unconscious man in her backyard has resulted in a death investigation.
Shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday, the Fort Wayne Police Department was called to the 1400 block of Schilling Avenue, just northwest of downtown, on a report of an unconscious person in a backyard.
Paramedics found the victim, an unidentified adult male, dead at the scene.
The city’s homicide team and crime scene units were called to assist in the investigation, said Officer Jason Anthony, Fort Wayne police spokesman.
A neighbor who lives near the home where the victim was found told The Journal Gazette that police at the scene believed the victim had been dead for a while before being found.
However, the neighbor said the victim was not seen in the yard on Saturday.
The neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, has been living in the neighborhood for several years, but is planning to move elsewhere.
The Allen County coroner is expected to identify the victim and reveal the cause and manner of his death after conducting an autopsy.
